What are we?

We are ......

A Church for the Parish An important part of our ministry is our mission as the Parish Church of the City Centre with a regular pattern of weekly worship, plus baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals, as well as services of celebration throughout the Christian year. We nurture our core congregation and offer a variety of groups for people of all ages. Children and families are catered for by ‘Sunday Space’ and a Toddler Group, whilst our young people attend Youth Group or Boys Brigade.  The Cathedral Choir plays an important role in our outreach to children and young people: offering a first class musical education and experience of Christian worship to those who might not experience either otherwise. We are an Eco Congregation and value our Fairtrade status.

A Church for the City

The Cathedral is now the only Church of England church within the inner ring road. We support projects such as
Inn Churches, Abigail, BIASAN and Street Angels.  Canon Sam leads the University Chaplaincy and is Faith Adviser to the Lord Mayor; and we have links with Touchstone and other ecumenical bodies. We play a leading role in co-ordinating inter-faith work across the City and District and are looking to develop this role.

We seek to be a Listening community, and offer a drop in service for visitors, the homeless and distressed.

We are a venue available to hire and have various concerts and conferences. Our Artspace in Bradford Cathedral project also brings a number of events into the building including exhibitions, drama, literary events, and a wide range of music from our own Choir concerts to jazz and brass bands.

Many services for the City are held here: the Civic Service is held annually, to thank the Lord Mayor for all his/her hard work during their year of office; the Legal Service is attended by over two hundred ‘wigged and gowned’ members of the legal profession from High Court judges to local magistrates; and at Christmas we hold a growing number of Carol services. An increasing number of secondary schools also use us for annual services.

A Church for the Diocese

As the principal church of the Diocese a number of large services are held here including the Blessing of the Oils, Ordinations, the Readers Triennial and we have been visited twice this year by the Archbishop of York.  We regularly host conferences and in  the past year have hosted a Sixth Form Conference on the Environment, a day conference with  A Rocha and a Healing day conference. We also partner with a large number of organisations in staging events and services; including the Marie Curie Hospice, Kidz Klub Bradford and Urban Saints. We also host and organise regular Diocesan services such as quarterly Youth Service and Prayer for Bradford.  We also hold a range of services such as monthly Taize prayer to which all are welcome.
